Gigabyte's an excellent choice in MoBos and has always been a top choice among DAW builders. What model board were you looking at?

The only issue is that this board does not come with firewire and of coures I want the M-audio 410. Do you think a firewire card will decrease performance? Also, i dont see many cards on new egg... are they hard to find and are they expensive?
Thanks for your help!!!

Although I haven't used this board myself it looks to be a fine choice. An add in card should not be an issue or give you poorer performance. I have this card....it would make an excellent choice for you as well.

Thanks for the suggestion!!! Looks like a good card!
I plan on building this system myself in May between school semesters. One main reason for the delay is because I heard of an intel core duo price drop. Its my first build so I'm expecting some hic-ups. I hope all things will flow through smoothly. Im really ready to start laying my own music down though, and learning more about the business!
The only concerns Im really having rite now is my graphics card. I might game some, no time for hardcore gaming, but I would still like to be capable to play the really good games from time to time. I was living in a not totally business conscious mind and was looking at the

Hard core gaming friend recommended it. Go figure. Can you help me be realistic, but at the same time get a GOOD graphics card for high screen resolutions and decent gaming?
Thanks in advance!

I agree with your gaming friend. the 7900 series gives you the best bang for buck, currently. the 7900 GT KO is also a great card and you can maybe find it for around $250. I think microcenter has it for $239.

If your using the system as a DAW only....no gaming, then I would suggest a Matrox card. It's much easier on systen resources than any ATI or GeForce card. Although with the power and better resource allocation of these newer systems, I don't believe it's as critical as it once was.
I've, too, have been doing research on motherboards and firewire ...
regarding GigaByte with Intel 945 and 965 chipsets, I found this review:

regarding Firewire I found this discussion on firewire:

and that lead to LaCie and their PCI firewire cards:
