I want to use the Firebox with my Windows laptop for true field recording (outdoors, no 120Volt available). The four pin laptop firewire bus cannot supply power to the Firebox.

I would like to have suggestions on operating the Firebox via compact, portable, moderately priced battery power. I would prefer to have a minimum of 4 hours operation.

You'd be better off purchasing a non-combo 6-pin FW400 card with a VIA or Texas Instruments chipset. Then you can bus power your FireBox ;)

Here's a reply I got when I tried to purchase such an item:

cardbus slots DO NOT provide any bus power

if you are using a cardbus card and need to provide bus power to a
device, you must use a power supply either on the device itself or on
a cardbus card that has an external power supply

This is why I asked for assistance with battery power for the Firebox. I can't find anyone who can provide a way for me to power the Firebox using only the laptop & a firewire connection (in effect powering the Firebox and the laptop from the laptop's built-in battery.

I'd appreciate any further suggestions.

Get a large UPS or take your car with you and use a DC/AC convertor with it. Theres not really a good solution to trying to do this. Just get a handheld portable field recorder and dump the data later. That would be alot more likely to be a solution.

the power requirements for the fire box are as follows:

12-24 volt dc or 15 volt ac @ did that say 10 watts?

there is no reason you cant build a battery Pack to supply the power for your presonus.

you could use a 12 volt wet cell battery for those emergency lights you see in buildings.
