I'd like to build a DAW, with $4,000 to spend. I'm a strait foreword pianist/vocalist, the gear for my presant DAW is old but never used, I will upgrade all of it, if need be. The DAW I now have is:
P4, 2.3 Gh, 1Gig mem, emagix 2004 software, Edirol UA5 interface, dbx mini pre amp, mackie analog 12 channel mixer, Shure Ksm 27 condeser mike.

your highly experienced, tested, (but not discovered) knowledged would be greatly
appreciated. who me? full of it, no way.

Does it do want you need it to do?

I made for attempts to use the emagix studio
software, and received the message "not enough
resorces to run software" the message appeared on both my laptop, and my desktop, no other programs were running upfront and only a few in the background, so I assumed the $79.00 emagix was defective, so I put recording on the back burner, and continued writing, I have decided to try setting up the system again, anyone need music theory help? ask me

What operating system?

The hardware you have listed soome perfectly reasonable for running a DAW. I have a setup with a gig of RAM on an AMD 2000+ and it can simultaneously record on the four inbound tracks on my M-Audio Delta-44.

Assuming it's a Windows XP box, typically a "not enough resources" error doesn't mean that you don't physically have the resources to run the program. Generally it's a software problem (like a bad driver or a memory leak) that's messing things up.

You didn't specify the type of hard disks you have, though. That they might be older, slower drives (5400rpm IDE drives, for example) that could be causing a bottleneck, but I doubt it. If that was the case, your software would run, but you'd get dropouts and other issues, not a Resources error.

thanks Agrikk
after setting my DAW up again, and reinstalling the drivers, as far as audible sounds, all seems ok on the laptop computer, I haven't tried recording tracks yet. Thanks again. this is a wonderful site.
