I have worked with groups like these.
I understand the impact on stage.
However to create the same impact on cd, or mp3,
just aint gonna happen without a sound person running it
thru the processing, analog or digital, makes no difference.
Find a person you can trust, make him a 'designated mixer' in as much as he/she can't party till the shows over and mix the band to tape/DAW?whatever. It will serve you best in expressing your bands true sound on the internet as well as to club owners, and groupies....
When we(me and the Band) do studio versions, we run the 'tune' if you will as a once thru. we then look at the VU's and get a grip on what da fk is going on and how to send it to the audience in their car/living room. Then we begin again.
You are competing with a zillion bands out there, find the nich (or Niche), and move forward. I particulary like Mars Volta, and Opeth mixes for this kinda stuff, as it is dead balls on the delivery in sonic replication.
Whatever, never take it personal, you asked me to listen and I did, so the good news is, I listened..:)
