I came across this thread over at Cakewalks Sonar forum.

Just wondering if anyone here had any comments on the issue.

Very interesting, looking over the white pages now......thanks for the link.

It would seem that Microsoft has yet to release a set of hardware guidelines that incorporates the recommended features of a WaveRT device.....but so far from what I'm reading...it does look promising.

Real world testing is what's needed here. I'm not saying that WaveRT won't cut it, but exactly what is Microsoft comparing it too.....WDM? I would think that they are! We need to see how it stacks up to ASIO.

Thanks for your thoughts.:)

I've heard that RME does not have plans to change their drivers from ASIO - they feel this is the standard for native systems.

Yes and it seems Microsoft is doing everything it can to change that standard. However, I get the feeling that Vista will prove itself to be the OS of choice for DAW work at some point in time.

My company manufactures DAWs. We have a lab and have been testing Vista Betas and RC's for several months. We are now testing Vista RTM on several incarnations of our machines. So far, we find that there is no way to give Vista a fair test since no one fully implements WaveRT and MMCSS which, when both leveraged properly should, by all accounts, provide superior performance to ASIO or other current Kernel Streaming drivers.

It would be nice to TRY a hardware driver that is *fully* designed for Vista.

On the other hand we have successfully used four DAW software apps )two available now and two in beta) with Vista reliably. Not all VSTi's behave as they should but most do fine. The ones that work now are Sonar 6.2 and FL Studio 7. I can't mention the betas because of NDA.

From what we have been told, hardware drivers that take advantage of Vista's WaveRT will be written, "when the advantages become more apparent" to quote a major mfg.

I guess we will wait with the rest of you, but we will soon be selling a Workstation-Class DAW with Vista Business (which will address a large bank of RAM) for which we have had some pretty stunning results, even without efficient driver implementations.

I'm anxious to use WaveRT drivers myself. Still no word on when these will be implemented in the DAW world....
