Firebox not playing audio?

hi everyone,
my firebox did a weird thing last night..
as my new DAW rig is still getting set up, i haven;t used the firebox for any recording duties. I've only been using it to play my mp3s and watch some shows, however, it just stopped playing any form of audio yesterday.

sync lights are blue, and the thing is that when i click on an mp3 file in winamp, it just doesn;t play. videos play, but without audio. if i turn up the volume on the headphone jack, it seems as though it is working, cos if i max out the volume on the headphone output, i can hear white noise.

im guessing that this is a software problem, but i don;t know how to go about approaching the issue. i've uninstalled firebox drivers, reinstalled the firewire port, and already applied the microsoft firewire sp2 patch, and its still not working.

while running the firebox, i've been disabling my intergrated sound on my laptop (using a seperate profile for my firebox itself), and it has been working great for the past 2 weeks, so somehow i don;t think that its a driver conflict??? oh and i haven;t installed anything besides some security patches from microsoft last tuesday. I even tried restoring my computer to a week before, but nothing so far that i've done is really working.

any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

hey all,
after many restarts with me not doing anything, the driver issue has been resolved (for good i hope). Am wondering how this happened, and whether i can avoid this issue next time... assuming that the problem was with the driver in the first place.

any suggestions? i know that its not good to have to audio drivers at the same time, but the devices were disabled and seperated into different hardware profiles, and on top of that, was able to work perfectly for about 2 weeks.

im puzzled as to how the problem could occur.

Have you looked to see if the firewire controller is sharing an IRQ?

yes, and there are no irq conflicts or shares...

interestingly enough, i think that its got something to do with the way i restart my computer (whether i click restart or shutdown).

As my laptop is perpetually on 24/7, i normally plug out the power to my firebox before i go to sleep. But this problem only occurs (very rarely) after i put the power back on for my firebox (causing all audio not to play).

It seems like the firebox will only work thereafter if i completely shut down the computer. unplugging the cables (firewire and power), reinstallation of drivers does not seem to work unless the computer is fully turned off.

because it only happens once in a while, im just also starting to wonder if there are any other possibilities to why this occurs.
