I'd appreciate some help with my Firepod. I hope to do more recording now after giving it a rest for 6 months. The blue sync light now goes on as soon as I power up with power cord and firewire. My laptop cannot find the device under new hardware and Nuendo does not see this device under the VST Multitrack device options so the sync is not happening. I am using a 1.87 ghz Acer laptop running Windows XP sp2, the same setup as 6 months ago when all was well. I already downloaded the firewire Windows XP sp2 upgrade as well, though perhaps I didn't have to. My last successful use of the Firepod was as a stand alone preamp for a gig. Was this OK to do without damaging the unit? Is it possible I affected the unit's firmware when downloading the newest drivers from Presonus? I'm trying to avoid sending this unit to Presonus since it is past warranty.

Your firewire ports are most likely burned out. You didn't do anything to damage it by using it as a stand alone preamp. There is a standard bench fee of $85 for non-warranty FirePod repairs. This includes all parts, labor, and return shipping. We actually replace the board inside, so it's like getting a brand new unit. Please contact techsupport@presonus.com to arrange a repair.
