Just in the process of upgrading my DAW.

So far i have bought:

2 x Western Digital SATAII 320GB drives &
AMD AM2 Athlon 3800+ CPU

Looking for a decent motherboard now. Are the following a good call? :

Gigabyte GA 3PXSL-RH, NF430, AM2, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=484505

or even:
Gigabyte GA M55Plus-S3G, NF430, S AM2, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 400/533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=412312

The 2nd one is a bit cheaper but can't c a reason as to why it is? Is it lacking something that the first board has?

What audio interface and music apps. are you using?

If your running samples, I'd suggest a third IDE drive on the Primary for the OS and Apps. Use one of the SATA drives for your samples and the other for your audio. A fourth drive for backup is a good idea as well, either an external(best option) or another internal IDE drive as slave on the primary port would do, but beware the added heat factor when going with many internal drives.
