Recently bought a Yamaha MD8 DAW and was wondering others thoughts on the unit.
Have done some live recording straight from a Mackie 1604 VLZ, using it's direct outs and subgroup outs,(two track drum mix).
First time out found I needed to modify my snake by adding resistance, (15 db pad).
Tech support thank yous owed.

I'm new to this whole thing and the MD8 looks like a neat mixer/recorder. What's your opinion of it? Is it worth the thousand bucks that musicians friend wants for it?

I've had one since August 2000 that I bought second hand very cheap. It's easy to use and flexible. The Fostex VF-16 looks like a better buy though at $999.00. The MD8 can record in 8, 4, 2 and 1 track modes. Fewer tracks equals more time on data minidiscs. It can record 8 tracks at once. It can use cheaper 2 track recordable minidiscs too. It can record from any channel to any track (group recording). It has two effects sends. If anyone has any questions on the MD8, I'd be happy to answer them as best I can. My local GC in Falls Church, VA has reconditioned ones going for $799.00.
