Hi,

I'm trying to connect my electric guitar to my Edirol UA-25 using a 1/4" Monster cable (I read that Monster cables were good). When I connect it, I can hear a high-pitched squealing sound which is very annoying. When I gently press on the sides of the cable where it's connected to the guitar, most of the squealing (but not all of it) goes away. Then when I use my other hand to simply touch the top of the Edirol UA-25, the rest of the squealing goes away. Another thing to note is that the time that the squealing is the worst is when I'm not touching the guitar strings. Once I touch them, the squealing goes away. I've tried moving the Edirol UA-25 away from other electrical devices and I've tried playing with its settings and the guitar's settings and I can't figure it out. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

sounds to me like a ground problem, did it do this prior to hooking up your guitar? have you tried a different a/c outlet? "squealing" is a hard word to determine on a written format like this, so...its not feed back generated by volume or eq settings, but definitely a squealtch? this can also be caused by a guitars ground...copper shielding in the controls section of guitar? the guitars output jack, there's a lot of things to check...you'll need to start eliminating the problem sources. Have you tried another guitar or cord? Just trying to throw out some ideas. Good luck

Do you have a shielded cable there? Stay away from your computer, especially the monitor, also...

Thanks guys for the responses!

I used a USB extension cord and moved my Edirol UA-25 across the room and moved my guitar into another room and the squealing went away... looks like it was just interference. But I probably wouldn't have thought of trying that (at least not until much later) had I not read your guys' responses, so thank you very much! I really appreciate it.
