I'm currently working with Reaktor, Absynth, FL Studio, Wavelab, and various organic and electronic external sound sources. My hardware setup is an EMU 1820 with the included ASIO mixer software.

Right now i'm just routing the audio stream from whatever source i want to record into Wavelab, recording it, and then sequencing the pieces in FL. The end product sounds pretty good but having to continuously route my inputs kills the creative process. What I'm looking for is an app that will host all of the aforementioned programs to 'tie everything together', preferably with bad-assed effects chaining capabilities. I was looking at ProTools, but I'm not sure if the new versions are compatible with my EMU hardware. From what I understand the new version has its own hardware interface, and regardless, i'd like to get some feedback from those sound junkies who are wiser than I before i drop major cash on a new app.

Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

What's the purpose of importing into FLStudio? Didn't the 1820 come with a lite version of Cubase?

perhaps more to the point a lot of this should be able to be accomplished via patch mix (the audio portion, for virtual audio you might need something like: http://nrcde.ru/music/software/eng/vac.html)

then yeah cubase bundled with Emu cards is certainly powerful enough to get started learning how to construct sessions

I have to say that Cubase is probably your best option for VST instruments and effects, DirectX effects, MIDI and audio sequencing, and editing.

... and the included LE version is really quite strong... If you have an older package, the Cubase VST 5.1, while long in the tooth, and not as efficient as LE, is very useable.

Look at the SOS Patchmix Article (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov05/articles/emupatchmix.htm) for more help with your Patchmix-ing... (I love pointing people to that article)...
