Could i take the same soundcard in my PC and move it to the laptop? they dont have to be laptop-specific cards do they?

second question is. Im moving from the US to Holland in a few months so ill be selling much of my current gear and getting a mobile setup that i can bring with me. Currently im running a real powerful windows xp system with a delta 1010LT,1 tubepre, cubase sx3 and a midi controller...no mixerboard... the 1010 has been nice so far but i get a lot of clicks and pops when im playing or listening to playback (im pretty sure thats the soundcards fault right?). id like to get a new interface for my mobile rig thats in the 600 to 800 dollar range, ofcourse ill do my own research but any favorites you guys could reccommend?

Welcome aboard EmeraldAcid......
No,it's not the soundcards fault. If it were, everyone would experience the same thing. As far as that mobile rig goes...you can use it for both laptop and desktop. Give us more details on your I/O needs in order to help us recommend a unit.

I never seem to have a use for more than 2 mic inputs at once, more is ok but id rather have 2 inputs with decent preamps than 8 with weak preamps... Typical recording session for me is maybe recording some acoustic guitar/voice, then adding vst drums/bass and eq/fx inside cubase. and like i said occasionally ill record with 2 mics at the same time if i have someone over to play guitar with. Anyways, sounds like a cheap setup would work for me, but im really really picky about sound quality so i push my budget as far as possible. If you know of a interface thats less than 6 to 800 and you think itd work for me feel free to reccommend it, ive been getting by with this 1010lt (150$) pretty well for the last year or so

thanks
-Mike

I would recommend either Motu's Ultralite which is firewire based....
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UltraLite/
....or EMU's 1616M which is PCI/PCMCIA based.....
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/1616MPCI/

Since I prefer PCI and PCMCIA audio interfaces, my choice would be the EMU.

why do you prefere pci over firewire?
