I've heard a lot about audio drives for your computer-based DAW. How do you get one of those? I'm not very computer literate. Is it something else you have added on to your regular computer hard drives?

Typically this is just a very fast hard drive attached to your SCSI (or ATA IDE) chain. If you want the best results go with 9,000 RPM or better ultrawide SCSI. But be prepared for sticker shock!
Also keep in mind the noise produced by the drive. The quieter the better.

Hi. Thanks. But I'm still confused. I'm new to this forum, so I think I should have stated my more general issues, which I did in the PC forum. Would you mind reading that and then telling me if you would recommend the SCSI drive?

Axis I researched this one for about 6 months. You could too - its all on the WWW.
Conclusion: for the average DAW bod, you should get EIDE drives - ie the standard drives obtainable everywhere. SCSI is OK for those with open-ended budgets, but .....
The faster the better (but don't forgit that a factor in throughput is also access time). I bought IBM Deskstar 30Gb 7200 drives, and haven't looked back - my system goes great - but I am sure that other makes would do OK. But the IBMs come well recommended.
Finally - one HD is fine, but if you do or might do much audio get 2 HDs and use the second exclusively for all your audio.
Go on, spend the money and pay for it all in May or something .....
