Hi All,

Does anybody know how to make Cubase SX3 synchronise as a slave to Midi Time Code.

You stripe your multitrack with SMPTE, feed it into a SMPTE/MTC converter, send the MTC to MIDI in to your sequencer/computer. A bit of configuration and off you go.

We have been doing this for years using various versions of Cubase with various computers, tape machines and hard disk recorders, without any problems. We decided to go with SX3 to keep up to date, and we have been regretting using SX3 ever since.

SX3 just *will not* keep synchronisation with MTC no matter what. It makes some sort of feeble attempt to try, but it seems that MTC and LTC in SX3 do not relate to each other.

 This is our computer…IBM 3.2GHz server, 2.5GB RAM, 10,000rpm SCSI HDD running Win XP SP2
 These are the SMPTE/MTC interfaces…EMU 1820m, Motu MIDI Express, MidiMan Syncman III+
 And the multitracks…Akai DR16, Tascam TSR-8

On our computer we have installed both Cubase VST v5.114 and Cubase SX3 v3.11.

We run VST and it synchronises to MTC with no problems. Start up SX3 with the same gear, the same tracks, the same bits of wire etc and, computer says no.

After spending a lot of time and money trying to get SX3 working, we are on the verge of giving up on Cubase all together. Very not happy about the money we have given to Steinburg for SX3. A product we can’t use.

So, is it us, or is it them?
