Hello all. I am new to this forum but I think it's great.

I'm posing this question to what it seems are some really good, well informed people. I hope you can help.

I record on a Fostex FD-4. Yes, I know it's a dog. I use it for songwriting and do my albums in a commercial studio. So, I have a little "project" studio with minimal outboard gear.

I have a CD of rough mixes of my current album without vocals for rehearsal purposes. I don't have a CD player. In plain English, I wish to play the CD and record it onto my FD-4 then add my vocals so I can hear how it's going to sound when I go into the studio to do my "real" vocals.

The FD-4 has two REC IN RCA jacks and also a DATA IN optical jack.

All I need to do is get the songs onto hard disk so I can add vocals. Should I:

1)get any old CD player, plug it in to the REC IN Jacks then simply go back and do the vocals on the remaining 2 tracks? (If so, any suggestions for what CD player to buy?)

OR

2)Use the optical DATA IN jack...and is there a CD player with an optical data out?

Cheers to all of you who have the new Yamaha AW. You lucky dogs. I like stand alone units because I am using my computer for other things but have considered buying a 2nd PC and using Digi001. I haven't done much research but I know it would be cheaper than the Yamaha. In any case, I have to sell some CD's before I do either.

Many Thanks in Advance! Replies to the board or privately at Baranca@aol.com are welcome.

Will
