Hello, I am new to this whole using Midi live thing.

I have a few synth programs that use Midi for cool analog synth sounds and all that and want to use them live, I've seen a few industrial bands do it.

What I've gathered from observation is I need the controler to connect to the computer on stage, which is no problem. I have yet to buy a controler, but when I do, does the soundflow of the Midi come out of the computer or is it somehow re-routed through the controler?

In otherwords, where would I plug the amp to? And is the quality still as good as I hear it on the computer?

Thanks in Advance

Hello.
A good place to start would be to read anything MIDI related here:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

The whole site is very informative, check it out.

Midi controllers are just that. They control. The information being sent from a midi controller is "play this note with this velocity", but the information is not the note or the sound itself . The sound itself will be generated from the computer (or the virtual instrument patched to audio software or stand alone software in the computer). That's why midi files are much smaller than .wav, or .aiff files; they consist of commands to play sounds as opposed to sounds themselves.

Even if you have midi coming back out of your computer into the controller. The information is still not the sound itself; just the signals for notes to be played on an external piece of hardware.

In Short, your computer is going to be making the sounds.
