Hello Gentleman!

I just heard from Presonus that my humming Firepod (see previous post) passed the audio tests with no problem so I am starting to seriously suspecting my audio output cables. Which made me thing that I would rather making a couple myself since I already have good quality shielded cable (with 2 conductors plus the shield) and Neutrick 1/4" stereo jacks.

I wonder if some of you know of a wiring layout by any chance... I found this http://www.rane.com/n110fig4a.gif and I eyed connection #8 but it appears that on the "From Output" jack the ground (shield) connection is omitted. Now I am not sure if this is a mistake or it was intented having in the later case a "floating" shield - that is only connected at one side.

Any help appreciated...

thanks,
Gabi.

This is an email response from Chad (our cable guru here at Presonus)

"Cables are very unlikely to be the source of his problems. Cables are passive devices and are not capable of ‘producing’ noise, buzz, hum, or anything else (despite popular opinion). Only if the cables are unshielded would they be subject to hum, and then only IF there is actually a source of buzz or hum or noise that is running parallel to the FirePod’s cables (also not likely); and I haven’t seen any unshielded audio cables but only once or twice in my life. Now, if they’re unbalanced, that’s not as good as balanced but still shouldn’t come into play unless they are very long (over 24 feet or so). Still, he should try a known good pair of balanced, shielded cables just as a test. Not a bad idea to try it…"
