I have been totally vexed by this damn soundcard. I never had any problems until recently I tried to install another program for the sound (that came with the factory MSI motherboard). I did that so that I could try to use a microphone as I don't have a mixer. Not only did it not work, but it f****ed up my soundcard settings so that no matter what I do, I can't get the Right channel to work. I reinstalled the entire program, changed the configuration, made sure all cords are plugged in and nothing's muted - no use. The damn left channel will not work at all. I am going nuts because I can't waste so much time on this damn thing. Can anyone suggest some solutions?

ok, i fixed the problem. I have read the entire manual, but still don't get which presets are the best. I'm listening to classical music. Do you have any suggestions? I am already using ASIO output, but I don't know the difference between Inserts. Do they affect the quality of the sound? What about the presets like Digital Default, 44.1 Direct Output, 192 Music Listening? These seem to be some arcane settings.

Product default is always a safe bet on the Patchmix.

E-MU cards are certainly worth the money....a good bang for the buck product.

Ive had that card for a couple years. Its actually the second, because the first one wouldn't work on the right side. Sent it in, recieved a new one. Year later same thing. Too late for new one. If you're recording just guitars, save money, get a Line 6 UX1 or UX2. Or skip the whole bee's nest alltogether and grab a six pack and some spankhouse magazines, maybe a little toot.

Ditto - All you want to concern yourself with, Excelsius, are the sessions for the 0404. Stay away from anything that doesn't have "0404" in the title. As for your Inserts, experimentation is the mother of invention. Try out some of the stuff. If you want reverb, drag it in there. Personally, I'd possibly just use an EQ plug and that's all, but if you drag the "Stereo Reverb" in there, you'll find that it has an EQ with it. You can build your own Power FX like that, and when you get something you like, "Save..." them as pre-sets for future use...

If you're listening to classical music, probably on CD, then all you need is 44.1kHz session, as that's all the higher a CD is. If you're using DVD-A disks, they only do 96kHz, so use one of those sessions.

btw, what'd you find wrong? Panning?

chunst, have you tried the "Restore Defaults..." from right-clicking the EMU icon in systray?

An excellent resource for *all* EMU Patchmix owners is the SOS Patchmix Article (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/nov05/articles/emupatchmix.htm) This should be required reading...

Yeah, right after I read your advice, I reset the EMU 0404. And still no input signal on the right. Output has always been fine. It just one day stopped working.

No *input* signal? Hmmm... Have you contacted EMU? 'Cause most of the few failures they've had with 0404 cards have been on the *Output* side... Perhaps they'd be able to send or sell you a new break-out cable if that went bad...??

Have you looked at your break-out cable's connector where it attaches to the card, and does all *look* well with it and the card? (no cold or cracked solder joints, etc?) No folded over pins? Do you have a VOM, or some way you can check continuity thru that break-out cable header? Have you checked your 1/4" Input cables and swapped them around (the "guitar" cables)? Is it the same exact thing as you had before when you got the card exchanged?
