I'm hiring mine when it comes time. Of course, I've got a friend who does it for a living... He can do in one day, what it takes me a week to do. Even if I only count my labor at $5 an hour, and his at $50, I *still* come out ahead, 'cause his days aren't even 8 hours long, while mine exceed 12... And his finished work looks way better than mine. Of course, he kind of looked at me sideways at first, when I was describing to him some necessary construction techniques in a sound room... lol, but then he "heard" the reasoning...

Congrats on the 1st coat of mud. That, in my book, is the most difficult. From here-on, it's more a game of patience, and not trying to "work it" too much... lolol (another reason why I hire it out, anymore). Face mask and head covering needed from here, unless you like limestone in your internals... lol |;^)

Yeah, nothing worse than hanging 12' sheets of 5/8" rock on a cathedral ceiling....can you say 'nightmare'?

jmail

Or, in my case, can you say: "Look-out for the falling 235 pound dummy!!!"...?

I thought hanging 12' sheets of 5/8" rock on a cathedral ceiling was a nightmare until I was hired to hang this stuff......

http://www.quietsolution.com/html/quietrock_thx.html

....At 1 3/8" thick and a 180lbs I was forced to redefine nightmare when it comes to hanging rock.

I got a couple sheets of that stuff around my vocal booth, but....12 feet in the air, no way jose'....literally outweighed the installer.

Hanging sheetrock is bad, but I hate laying tile worse.

I blew out both my kneecaps putting down tile in my last house getting ready to sell it. Now it feels like kneeling in ground glass any time I have to crawl under my equipment to hook anything up.

I just hate work - still...

Doing a 900+ sq. ft. basement floor as we speak(not literaly).....it does suck!

If the floor is undulating severely, use a floor leveling compound before tiling.

no its not undulating severely, man ya should never use the word undulating around musicians :D just a little dip I noticed with 4' level, I'll put some floor leveler on it...guess we shouldn't use the word "dip" either. thanks itsplayed.

Is this a basement floor your doing? If so, here's a little tip for ya'. Start the floor layout near the lally columns if you have any to contend with.....splitting the tiles around the columns. There's nothing worse than laying out a basement floor and discovering that your next tile lands squarely in the middle of a column where your only option is to split the tile in two before the circular cut.

* Notice I avoided the use of the words 'undulating' and 'dip' in my response this time around......musicians are just too sensitive.

there's little trick you can do to help hang sheetrock on cielings..
build a couple of 'y' braces -out of 2 by fours and close the top of the 'y' with another 2 by four the lenght of the stick should be about an inch taller than the cieling, once you and helper get it up on cieling brace on end with the y , or two braces, your shoulders will appreciate it.
dollar short, day late I suppose

If ya do it Bops' way, you've got enough timber left afterwards to build a drum stage...
