Hi David, everyone-

I have a uc33e and use it along with Digital Performer 5. I couldn't find a working template for this DAW application, so I made 3 custom presets within Enigma. I assigned uc33e's controllers for these presets by using the "Attach midi controller" function on DP's Mixer, and after some fiddling, I got things working (volumes and panning; I tried assigning sends but when I close DP I loose this info).

I have to save my assignments in a template file so each time I create a New File, I'll have my sliders and knobs correctly assigned. It's not an ideal setup, but it's the best I could think of. If anybody has some presets of their own, or could point me towards a DP preset source I'd be grateful.

I'd also like to know if someone has been able to control Virtual Instruments within DP. I know I can control my B4 II, but what about DP's own VI's: Modulo, Bassline, etc??

On another subject, I'm using Metric Halo's MIO console driver along with their 2882 audio interface (www.mhlabs.com). This is a virtual console with a matrix that allows you to route inputs and outputs in a very flexible way and have different "scenes". For instance I have my keyboards and sampler playing back a midi sequence with audio in DP, and I have two completely different mixes of this going out to headphones and to my main monitors.

MIO Console supports control surfaces, HUI, etc... So I used an application called MIDI Monitor to see which MIDI CCs are being triggered by MIO's faders and assigned these directly in Enigma. I can now control my Headphone mix with the uc33e. But so far I haven't been able to control the main monitors mix, and I'm stuck here asking for help.

You can download and install the MIO Console even if you don't have the audio interface. You just choose Preferences > Enable Control surface Support and choose uc33e Port 1 as your Primary Controller. Maybe someone is curious and would like to try and find a way around this issue...

Anyway, the thing is the faders on MIO are producing the same MIDI messages ( CC 144 / UC33 Pitch Bend) for all channels in different mix tabs. So if I choose Headphone Mix tab, or Main Monitors Mix tab and move fader one in MIO, the same MIDI CC will be produced. How do I go about this and assign controls independently??

One thing I've noticed, though, is that changing tabs will produce Note On/Off messages for several channels on the MIO console. So I don't know if this could potentially help in some way.

Bottomline is I'd like to use my uc33e to control both mix tabs (Monitors mix and Headphone mix) and have different uc33e for different mix scenes that apparently are producing the same midi messages.

Thanks for any help and ideas to sort this out!

Best regards,

Regarding DP -
I have no experience with it. Sorry. Many softwares store their controller assignments in the project. Often, a template as you have created is the only way to go. This is a good idea anyway, as you can build in many things that you typically do in a project (aux send busses, efx, etc.). You can then save the template as stationary (click cmd-1 on the app and check stationary box.) This will then let you overwrite or create a new file every time you launch.

Regarding MIO
The only thing I can think of is midi channels. Perhaps each page functions on a different midi channel, and using the UC33 you are set to the global channel. Then again, that would mean it defaults to channel 1... hmm...

Have you tried different MIDI Channels?

Thanks for your reply, David.

I contacted Metric Halo about this, and it appears the control surface support has not been fully implemented in the current driver, and will be addressed sometime in future releases. So that's that.

About DP, the template option is fine. Just not ideal, when adding audio tracks to a project, the new tracks need to be assigned. And I can't find a way to control plug-ins within DP.

I own Native Instruments B4 II, and the Enigma Preset works just fine in standalone mode. But as a plug-in some parameters work (pedal volume, tube distortion, etc..), but drawbars didn't

Anyway, thanks for your help with my uc33e.

Rodrigo

I came across Rodrigo's posting about syncing MIDI controllers to Native Instrument parameters. A related question : while it's easy to use "Attach Midi Controller" to send inputs (Vol, Pan, etc), is it possible to do the same for parameters in the audio plug-ins? For example, could a knob on an external MIDI device be attached to a Parametric EQ knob controlling frequency cutoff? This would allow a lot of real-time control. Anyone?

(Rodrigo: In Pro-53, I was able to Enable MIDI Learn to control a good number of parameters - I've a feeling you've figured this out by now, though.) Mason
