View Full Version : Recording a Drum Track

Hi,

I recently wrote a song that's played on the acoustic guitar. It has sort of a softcore punk feel to it. The thing is, I don't have any friends that can play the drums. Even if I did, that wouldn't do me any good because I haven't figured out how to record more than two tracks at once and I don't have a set of drum mics.

That being the case, I was wondering what it would be like to ask somebody on the Internet to record the drum track for me. I would send them an MP3 of the song without the drums and then they would record a drum track and send me the WAV so I could mix it in. At this point it's just a thought--I have no commitment to this yet. But I would like to know two things:

1.) Is this a good or bad idea?

2.) How much would it cost?

Thanks!

Hi, why don't you just program a drum track??

From what I've seen, free drum programs are terrible, and the ones that you have to buy are really expensive. Then after buying it I'd have to learn how to use it. I don't know which would be more cost-effecient.

Depending on how fast your track is. I find programming fast punk drum beats just sounds like machine gun fire, especially on the rolls no matter how expensive your software. So maybe your better off using loops.Send me your track and ill lay down some drums for you free of charge.

if you aint in a big hurry, I would love to do it, or at least attempt it, if the files sound sucky, let me know, as i never take it personal folks...I am no Teri Bozio, but I am Bops, and dat be good enuff for me.
seriously, if you want i'll set you up a file on my ftp to transfer the .wav files, if you prefer, i can deal with .mp3's, but you gotta make sure you ar running some reasonable click track, as the timing issues are critical when swapping files.
Again just an offer, no offense if you don't take it up.

oh yea Cost- free if on my scheduale, that would be perhaps up to 90 days for a deliverable.
Negotiate if you need something fast- then we talk
Express warranty, "hands lenghth negotiation" - if I suck deal is non-existent
If you suck Deal is non negotiationable and void.
All files will be deleted from da bops server-- blah blah blah stuf...

Thanks you guys for your willingness to help! I would love for both of you to see what you can do. I still have some things I want to do with the song before I send it to you, though. I can have it ready sometime this week. Please let me know what format you want it in (WAV or MP3) and how you want me to get it to you. I can put it on my FTP server if you want. Thanks again!

Okay guys, I have a very rough version of the song WITHOUT drums on my FTP server. Just so you know, I plan on redoing everything--the guitars, the vocals, the backup vocals--everything. I don't own an electric guitar yet but I'm going to buy one soon and record it with that. But the song is at the correct tempo, and that's what counts. Here are the links:

WAV (56.0 MB):

MP3 (3.50 MB):

Thanks again very much for your willingness to help! Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry, I should've said in my last message.

During recording, I had the metronome set to 242 bpm. That was just so that I had a lot of beats to make it easier to keep my rhythm going. I suppose the drums should be at 121 bpm, although I'm not too familiar with bpms in the first place :) . Thanks!

Ok, done it, i figured it was 121 so it all sounds pretty tight. I have no ftp so i don't know how i can send it unless your on msn or something...Sounding good and its a great song.....p

That was fast!

If possible, I would like you to send me a WAV of JUST the drums so that I can tweak with them any way I want. I'd also like an MP3 of the song with your drums mixed in.

As for getting them to me, yes, I do have MSN. It's nrogers64@hotmail.com. Please send it to me as soon as you can. Thanks!
