I've been here before (used to be Stewbone), but it's been so long I've lost my personal info! So I had to re-register as something... Sorry, no disrespect to the good patrons and hangouts here at the forum, life is just busy! Anyhoo, I have an issue. Short history:

I've been out of the loop, all of life has pre-empted my musical life, and my PC is out of commission. I have one to borrow for a couple days, and I installed Sonar HS4 on it to retrieve a (very long) recording I made from my Tascam 788 (it's my grandfather's funeral, for the benefit of some who couldn't go to pay their respects). I haven't used an audio PC in many many months, and am now retarded. I have re-installed my Terratec EWS88MT soundcard/breakout box, and now I can't get it to record properly. It only does one track (of two) into Sonar HS4.

I did try and record through the AC'97 on-board audio in this borrowed box, but I got terrible loud glitches and pops in both tracks. No good. So I went and got my Terratec from the guy who's supposed to fix my computer- and I am now lost in trying to get it working.

Anyone an expert with this card? I'm sorry, I'm a loser, so kill me! But tell me something about using this booger first! Lpdeluxe, you out there? Thanks!!

I got it working. Sorry for the lathering up over it. :)

I seem to not exactly have the right mindset/orientation for this PC thing. It's very detail and procedure oriented, which is not me, evidently. But I'm going to do it anyway, 'cause I have to! I do tend to have an easier time with little tape machines- too bad you can't do as much cool stuff with 'em.

I'll settle back into al this and get my chops up. I appreciate the forbearance of anyone who happens upon my posts!

Peace,
Rog.

I'm standing by now, as I am getting no playback! I did get it recorded from the 788 into SonarHS4, but now I can't hear it.

I've posted at the Cakewalk site, and am hopeful that someone there'll know how to deal with it. Thanks again, all readers...

Although I no longer use it, I have the EWS 88D card.. You should have some kind of a control panel with your card that allows you to set input and output routings.

Also, you need to set the playback device to the correct unit in your software.

I don't use (or like, for that matter) any Cakewalk stuff so I am not familiar with how you set the output device in Sonar, but there must be a way to do it.. It will not automatically default to your EWS card just because it's installed.

I've pretty much got the general procedures down for the card, assigning it, etc. I'm just not able to get it do bring sound out from the PC. I have it properly installed as far as I can tell.

Dunno. Thanks for checking in, GZ.

disable the ac 97 card in the contro panel, system, hardware, device manager, sound video controlers,
you should see the phase card there, if not, it is not installed, go back and uninstall and re-install.
THEN disable the ac97 card.
Don't update the drivers for the phase until you try it first.

in the TERRATEC CONTROLPANEL:
On the Settings you should have the clock set as internal
I use 48000 HZ, sonar will let you use what you want.
Use the 'Multi-application" tab, set dma buffer to 10 ms.
Signal routing source should be set at WavePlay 1/2, WavePlay 3/4 etc to PCI Out
Digital Out set to WavePlay Digital Out.
I run version 5.40.
(By the way did you do an audio check in sonar ?
does it see the card ?)
If all this stuff looks right then it is either a setting in windows sound settings, or settings in Sonar.
