Hi Rick & everyone,
i own a firepod and i get these weird "glitches" pretty often. I have downloaded the latest firmware, and i tried with other cables/instruments/mics and it does the same thing. Here's my settings in my firepod control panel. Sample rate: 44.1 kHz, latency: 2ms, clock source: internal. I did tried other values here without more success.
Please check out this example of the glitch i'm talking about

I'm running the unit on my laptop, a compaq presario R3000 Amd64 3200+, 512 RAM.
Thank you for your help !

here's some more info on my setup
OS: WinXP Pro SP2
Soft : Cubase LE (came with the firepod)
I only use the internal HD (80G) of my laptop
I don't have any other firewire/USB device plugged
No other hardware plugged, only my firepod in my computer with firewire, that's it. Thanks

Here are a few things you should try:
Download this firewire patch for Service Pack 2.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222
Once installed, restart the computer and then reinstall your FirePod.
Then......
1. Right click on your FirePod/Box icon in your system tray just to the left
of the time. Set the CPU setting to HIGH. If HIGH setting does not work,
try LOW.
2. Right click on your My Computer icon and select Properties. clik the
Advanced tab, clik the Settings button under Performance, click Advanced tab, then set to Background Services under Proccessor Scheduling.
3. If you have Service Pack 2 installed: Click Start menu, Control Panel,
Windows FireWall, click the Advanced tab and 'uncheck' the 1394 Connection
and clik OK.
4. click Start menu, Control Panel, double clik into Power Options and set
the Power Scheme to Always On and set the other stuff to NEVER, click APPLY, then click Hibernate tab and 'uncheck' hibernate, then click APPLY and OK.
5. click Start menu, Control Panel and double click into Network Connections,
if you have a Wireless Network Connection, right click and 'disable' this
while you are running the FirePod.
6. Within Cubase, click Devices menu, select Device Setup, and select VST
MULTITRACK. There you have "number of disk buffers", set this to 10 and
"disk buffer size", set this to 128 or 256. click APPLY. Also make sure you
are set to the Presonus ASIO FirePod drivers. Then click the 'Expert'
button and set "audio priority" to VERY HIGH and uncheck "multi processing" if applicable. You may also want to increase any related settings within other recording softwares.
7. Lastly, right click on My Computer icon, select Properties, click Hardware
tab, click Device Manager button. In here, extend the IDE ATA/ATAPI
Controllers, double click on the Primary and Secondary IDE Channels, click
Advanced Settings. Here you will see Device 0 and Device 1, you'll see
"Transfer Mode" (which is usually set to DMA if available) and you will see
"Current Transfer Mode". Current Transfer needs to be set to UDMA(Ultra
DMA) mode. If either Device on the Primary or Secondary Channels are set to
PIO mode, this could be your problem. PIO mode is a older legacy and slower
transfer mode for older HD's. If either are set to PIO mode, you can change
this by either entering BIOS and setting the IDE Controllers to 'Auto' and
as long as the 'Tranfer Mode" is set to DMA if available, the Current
Transfer Mode should change. If not, in the Device Manager, as long as the
"Transfer Mode" is set to DMA if available, you can right clik on the
Primary/Secondary IDE Channel listed and 'uninstall' it. Once
'uninstalled', reboot your computer and it will refresh.
Get back to me with your results and your computer's System Information
file. Here's how you generate the NFO file:
Click the Start menu button, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. In the System Information window, clik the File menu and Save. Name your file and Save as a .NFO file type to your desktop. Attatch to email.

What kind of Firewire Card do you have?

Ok Rick, I did everything you said in your last post, and here are my results. There are two main things that really changed something, and it's the firepod CPU settings, and my wireless card.
With CPU High & wireless enabled, i have some "glitches"
With CPU Low & wireless enabled, virtually no problem
With CPU High & wireless Disabled, still a few glitches, but a whole lot less
With CPU Medium & wireless Disabled, best results, everything sounds perfect
As to answer lasaxman, i'm not quite sure of my firewire card, it's the one built in my presario and all it says is "Texas Instrument 1394 Compatible Host", which sounds pretty generic to me.
Anyway, thanks a lot, with your help i've found the settings i needed to record clean sound ! So problem solve ! :)
