Hello, question about the Firebox. (Love the unit by the way!) I'm running it bus-powered with a 6 pin FW cable. If I attach the power supply, will the unit then draw power only from the external power and not from the FW bus? I think I am pushing my workstation's power supply to the limit and am looking for ways to ease the load. Can this be done the way I have described? Thank you for any help.

Hi J Dawg,

Yes, if you are using the powersupply it will automatically take the power load off of the firewire bus. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Is there any advantage to using the power supply over the firewire performance wise?

Not really soundwise. For some who want to put less of a stress on their powersupply like J-Dawg, the adapter might be a better choice. But you won't get any change in performance from the Firebox. It's happy either way.
