What happens when you start up your Promix? Other than the dialogs, what about the green preamp lights. Do all 8 flash once together very quickly, then again, but from 1 thru 8 (mine only flashes once - all 8 together, but my friend's flashes once together, then from 1 to 8 - and his Ptromix works ok - mine seems to be having a lot of problems).

It sound like the firmware needs to be updated. Head over to M-Audio.com and download the firmware updater.
Be sure to follow the instructions closely. If the procedure doesn't go correct the PMIX will not function and it will have to be sent to the repairs team to fix.

Thanks. I tried updating (using my more stable Powerbook g4) - it took 3 times for the G4 to see the PM, and then I began updating the firmware - halfway thru the process (the blue bar was about halfway), it stopped, there was an error of some kind, and now other than starting up the PM with the 1st and 3rd mute buttons pressed (normal dialog comes up), all I see when I start up the PM is one long yellow bar on the led display. Yikes!

me again...
after trying to update again, the PM firmware software doesn't see the G4 (even though in system profiler, it sees the PM) - and when it os looking for the PM, there is a screech for a few seconds that comes through the audio outputs on the PM (of course my speakers are off).

YIKES. I'm so sorry. COntact tech support. They'll help you make sure there are no other ways of getting it going, then help you get to repairs to fix it.
SORRY.

well, I brought the PM to the dealer/support in HK, and we were able to reinstall the firmware, and then tried the PM on both a PC and and iMac with 10.4.7 - it worked fine (identical to the other PM the dealer had as we compared). Then, I got a call from a guy who wanted to buy it, and I sold it to him, but last night he called me, and said he spent the whole day trying to get it to work right (the PC couldn't see it - like my Quad G5). He's a seasoned tech/musician guy, so he tried everything. The difference with his PC (and my Quad g5) from the dealer's computers is that we have PCI/PCIe cards of various types installed, where the dealer's computers are fairly basic (no cards).
I have one question - I used the dealer's adapter when checking the PM - afterwards I called him to ask what the specs were on his adapter - 9vDC (like the back of the PM specifies). My adapter is 12v DC, and when I looked in the PDF manual, it also specifies to plug in the 12v adapter. Will this make a difference (the voltage difference might mess up the PM)?

The story continues... - the guy who bought my Projectmix couldn't even get his PC to recognize it (he uses digi002 which works fine!!), so I'm taking it back, returning his money.
My next plan is to make sure the PM works at the dealer's again, then try it on my Quad again - I'm installing older versions of 10.4 and the compatible drivers on the second internal hard disk, and nothing else, and then we'll see what happens. Wish me luck.

unfortunately the PM didn't see any computer when connected - it's been in repair for a month (they apparently haven't even looked at it yet)....
