hello
i have a audiophile-firewire,and i cannot get the digital passthrough of dts encoded signals to work
when i send a dts(wav) to the sp/dif output ,all i get is white noise
so it must be resampling something(?)
what i want to do is this
i have a dts-wavfile on my hd and send it through the sp/dif output to my
AV-receiver.
is it some setting in windows-xp?
or do i need a codec...?
on the m-audio website, they advertise that you can passthrough ac3/dts via the sp/dif output......
""FireWire Audiophile even has AC-3 and DTS passthrough for surround sound playback (from website)""""
please help
Thank you

IT will pass those signals through. What did you encode the DTS file with? I think it should be a .dts file, not a .wav file.

thx for your reply
a dts file can also be a wav
look at this website:
http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/isidorpub/PrinterFriendlyArticle.asp?ProgramID=2445&Artikel=739973
all i want to do is stream the digital dts-file over the s/pdif output
i also have a Emagic audiocard, and this card does this perfect
---
the audiophile firewire does not passthrough the 5.1 dts-file
ITS NOT BIT-IDENTICAL..it makes it analog
im really starting to worry now,why i bought this hardware.:(
-------
if i sent a digital dts-file to the s/pdif output,of firew.-audiophile,
it should "PASSTHROUGH" ,this information to my AV-receiver,
WITHOUT ALTERATION!
But it does this NOT,It alters the DTS-stream,wich makes the dts stream
un-usable....

Is there mixer software for this soundcard? Those frequently have settings which effect the digital out. For instance, my Audiophile 2496 mixer has several S/PDIF output settings, one of which is Data Type: audio/non-audio. Never having tried 5.1 DTS, I don't know, but I would not be surprised if that had to set that to "non-audio" for such files. Also, the correct sample rate has to be set in the mixer panel, it is not automatic. External soundcards may make these settings via switches on the box.

Hello everybody.
I'm having similar prtoblems to you Fibers, I'm using the M-Audio Firewire 410, which is connected to my Denon AVR-1906 amplifier via co-axil SPdif digital cable. I'm using XP, with service pack 2, Windows media player 9, PowerDVD 7 with all the current audio drivers. All of my audio system sounds pass through with no problem but when I try to play a DTS encoded audio file, either from my hard disc or from a cd, all I get is white/pink noise. I can play DTS encoded DVD's in PowerDVD and my amp recognises, that signal correctly
Previously I had Terratec card and there was a facility to change the SPdif o/p to 'non audio', which as far as I am aware, is not present on the '410'.
I had the system working with the Terratec card, {which is now dead} so I'm tempted to think it's a configuration problem, {or maybe the lack of it}.
If you, or any body can shed any light on my problem, I would be greatly appreciative.
Yours in anticipation.

im sorry mungo,
but i dont have it working yet
i dont have that audio/non-audio switch in the s/pdif-mixerpanel...
you say:I CAN output dts(dvd's) with Power DVD,
but that also doesn't work for me...
i still get this noise(The AV-receiver does not recognise the signal)
----------------
I am about sending M-Audio a mail regarding this problem...
and demand a solution
i bought this card ,so i also could watch movies in DTS

Yo Fibers
I've tried for hours over the last weekend trying to get it to work but to no avail. I put an official DTS enabled DVD into my hard drive, played it through PowerDVD and my receiver recognised it as a film with DTS audio, no problem. But actually playing DTS audio files from my hard drive or from cd's that I have burnt from them, no go!
The same burnt cd"s play no problem when played through my DVD via SPDIF into my receiver.
I'd appreciate any feedback.

Yo Fibers
Also have a look at Doom9's DTS faq, which has a few alternative ideas, which I'm working my way through.

I had a quick listen to your MP3. Nice one!

thanks for listening to my music!
i now understand that is not quite easy to send dts over the Audiophile,
and that VideoLan and PowerDVD support this
im having a computer-tech coming over this weekend,
and we are gonna try to find a solution....
------------------
i read some stuff at the doomforum, and
*maybe its a Windows_Xp problem
(im gonna install this DTSWAVsource.ax...)
*try sending DTS with VideoLan
(this program has advanced S/pdif-configuration)
-------------------
im gonna contact M-Audio support, here in the netherlands
they're called MAFICO

A mate of mine also pointed me in the direction of another very informative forum/FAQ page:-

One thing I seemed to understand from reading it is that with the variety and choice of all the soundcards in the world, most of them are confined to using 2 audio chipsets, the Creative family and the ENVY24 and its variants (please correct me if I’m wrong). The basic fact of this is that the Creative family re-sample all audio, which is no good for the DTS stream as it must not be altered in any way, i.e. passthrough.
All this reading though and I still havn’t got it playing DTS audio. I’ll keep you informed if I do.
