Firstly, nice to see an official M-Audio forum...Thanks David...
This may seem a very simple question, but I have searched around and cannot find any reference to this problem....manuals, FAQ or Googling
Basically, I would like to route audio outs back into the inputs..For example, if I am playing a midifile (or any media) off my hardrive, say for example, out of Outs 1+2, I would like to be able to record that audio into an application..in this instance Audition.
This I was able to achieve internally using my previous card..a Delta 410, if I recall correctly, by unmuting the Line In fader on the Windows Mixer Panel. Trouble is, with the Firewire410, the Recording page of the Windows mixer has no faders..the playback page has only 3... wav, swsynth and CDplayer.
Is this a windows fault or do the M-Audio drivers not allow the windows mixer. Or is there a function I'm missing in the M-Audio mixer.?
I guess I can patch outputs back to inputs externally, probably creating some sort of feedback loop in the process..:-)...But I am hoping there is a very simple overlooked solution, or that somehow I have missed the relevant instructions.
Any help appreciated.
WinXP Pro
M-Audio 5.10.0.5034 drivers
No other soundcard installed.

I doubt that any M-Audio card uses the Windows' mixer; they all have their own software control panel. I haven't played with any firewire card but since they are external they may have the same limitations as USB in this area: on the card mixing may not be a possibility. If it is, it will be achieved with routing settings in the card's mixer panel.
Other than that possibility, you will need a speciality helper application such as Total Recorder http://www.highcriteria.com/
to capture the midi sequencer output for later opening in Audition
or virtual Audio Cables http://spider.nrcde.ru/music/software/eng/vac.html
to direct the output of the midi sequencer to Audition's input.

Thanks Andy,
That enlightens me a lot....I am going to demo both of your suggestions.
I guess my question to put out there is basically....is there a way of routing an output of the 410 into the input through the software mixer panel?
I'm sure I had that capability with the PCI 410.....remembering of course that Firewire is a different beast.

I have this same preference...it is how I used to work with a PCI card...were you able to resolve this with a quick workaround?

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I am trying to build a DAW, but I am not able to get sound for some reason. Please see my computer specs and the troubleshooting methods I have tried so far.
ASUS Motherboard
AMD Athloan Dual Core Processor
2 GB RAM
500 GB SATA Hard Drive
FireWire PCI card
Windows XP sp2 (slip streamed the drivers)
I also have an M-audio 410, which is attached to speakers, and a microphone. I have installed and updated the drivers from the M-Aduio website, and when I go to Control Panel>Sounds> it points to the M-Audio settings. When I play a CD or audio I can see movement in the M-Audio control panel, but there is no sound coming out of the speakers.
I was told I may need an additional external sound card, but I want to make sure that is correct before I buy one. Our previous pc had an audigy sound card, with M-audio 410, and fruity loops, and it worked fine (was set up by my brother in law). However, I decided to try and build a new comptuer that would work better for recording and producing music, but I cannot seem to get sound through M-audio to save my life!

That what you want to do is exactly what we are doing with software like FL Studio, Rapper, Cubase, Sonar etc:)

What kind of speakers do you have? Are they powered?

I can't remember the brand name, (I will look for sure when I get home) but yes, they are powered. They do no plug directly into my pc, they only fit in the M-Audio 410. I had them tested at a local store a few weeks ago. The guy was able to plug the speakers directly into his iphone and they worked.
Thanks!
