Hey i recently bought a m-audio mobilepre usb and while im recording im using cool edit pro, it captures the noises on my pc, so if the song is recording in the backround it will capture the song aswell as my voice. it will capture my msn sounds and stuff like that so its impossible for me to record. im not talking about my mic capturing backround noises im saying the actual mic front line in that if i said it right, could any one help please?

First, anyone who is serious about audio turns off all OS and application sound effects for opening, closing, screwing up, or whatever. Those always interfere with the recording if anything they are tied to occurs while you are recording.

Whether only the current analogue input is recorded or other tracks being played back are also recorded at the same time is normally a function of the soundcard mixer settings. However, all USB soundcards I'm familiar with don't have a mixer and don't have the ability to record on-computer audio. If your's does have a mixer control panel, look to that. If not, I don't know how it could be happening. Perhaps there is some hardware routing in the external box which accomplishes it.

Are you using a Mixer?

It sounds to me like you have a mixer that you are routing your mic and the mobile pre through, right?
I'm going to guess you have the mic going into the mixer, channel 1, the mobile pre into channel 5/6 or something like that. THen you have the mixer's main out going into the mobile pre. Right?

nope i only have the m-audio plugged in through the usb and then this cord that plugs into the red input for recording maybe its just a setting with the m-audio that could be bugging it

Hmmm So we've got one mic going to input 1 of the Mobile Pre, a USB cable going to the computer from the Mobile Pre, and 2 1/4" cables coming from the Mobile Pre's outputs to your speakers. With this setup, I can't imagine what would be causing the monitor signal to be recorded.

What's the input on the track you are recording to set as? It should be "Mobile Pre 1 or Mobile Pre Left.
What is the audio interface set for in Cool Edit Pro?

Then you're not recording from the Mobile Pre. You're recording from the Realtek audio interface. Change it to the mobile pre.

And I missed this before, but what do you mean "then this cord that plugs into the red input for recording "
There is no Red input on the Mobile Pre.
