Greetings,
My 95 year old mother plays the organ at church, which is one of the few remaining pleasures she has. Her problem is that even with hearing aids, she cannot hear the minister in the front of the church;(she is in the back)So, she does not know when to start playing the hymns. Is there a way we could get headphones for her and connect them to either one of the speakers or to the microphone at the front? I am totally ignorant about audio equipment, so if you could please tell me exactly what I need to buy, and how to hook it up, I would appreciate it!! Thank you so much, and my mother thanks you also!!!

You could try tying in to the mixer with remote headphones/monitors.

On the church sound board/mixing console there should be a headphones out, you can run a 1/4" headphone line from there to your mother's headphones or use a wireless device for distance, you would also probably need a headphone amplifier, I use a Presonus HP4 and it has ample volume and delivers a clear sound, your sound system guy at church could help you out with this set-up.

How far is it from the mixing console to the organ? Is it practical to run a cable between the two? If so, I second 87PRS's suggestion. A Presonus HP4 (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HP4/), along with a long balanced cable, is a good solution.

If there's no way to run a cable between the mixer and the organ, that's a bit more complicated. There are several solutions out there that will allow you to plug in a transmitter to the board, and broadcast an FM signal to your mother, as well as anyone else who might need assistance hearing the service. A pocket-sized receiver and a pair of headphones or earbuds allows folks to listen.

Let us know which is the case and we can help you out with the specifics.
