Hi,

Great to see an M-Audio support forum at last! :)

I run Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and I'm currently using several audio programs successfully with my M-Audio FW 1814 and the beta 64 bit drivers.

I am considering buying an Axiom 61 controller, but I can't find a 64 bit driver for it on the M-Audio website.

Can you tell me if a 64 bit driver is planned for this controller, and if so when it might be released?

If there is no driver planned, what functionality would I lose by using the MIDI Out instead of the USB I/O?

Cheers,

Malcolm.

I also would love to see a 64 bit driver for the axiom series.

Malcom,

I currently use my Axiom 25 via midi and have not had any problems with it but I must admit I do not use it to the full extent of its abilities so I could be missing something.

The Axiom keyboards are class compliant. That means they do not require a driver to work. As long as Microsoft has not "broken" class compliance in their OS, it shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks

Hmmm. Looks like I am going to plug in my Axiom tonight and see if it works in Vista x64 :)

Thanks for the info Dave.

Hi David,

Thanks for your quick reply.

The Axiom keyboards are class compliant. That means they do not require a driver to work.

If this is the case, why is there a driver available for download for standard XP?

As long as Microsoft has not "broken" class compliance in their OS, it shouldn't make a difference.

A fairly broad "as long as" considering Microsoft's history. :)

What benefit is available by using the USB connection instead of a standard MIDI connection?

Will the Enigma librarian work with standard MIDI, or does it only recognise the Axiom over a USB connection?

Cheers,

Malcolm.

Hi Nagal,

I would be interested to hear how this works out for you!

Malcolm.

I would too!

The only benefit is convenience and power, and cost.

If you use MIDI you'll have to power the Axiom externally (I don't think the power supply is not included in the box)
You'll have to use another MIDI interface anyway (which will probably be a USB interface.

Windows Class compliant is less elegant than on the mac. In Windows, the Axiom won't be named. It will only list it as a USB AUDIO DEVICE. The XP driver actually names it AXIOM. This may also be a requirement for Enigma, but I must say honestly, I've been using a Mac for the last few years and haven't used enigma on a PC.

Finally took delivery of my Axiom 61 today :)

For the benefit of anyone else who reads this thread, the M-Audio driver that ships with the keyboard IS NOT compatible with Windows Professional x64 Edition.

The good news, however, is that it does work without installing the M-Audio driver. Had it up and running with REAPER in minutes. Having the Transport controls at the keyboard is great! :)

Cheers,

Malcolm.
