Hi there, I have just purchased an 18/14, and am having problems running it for more than about two minutes without it crashing - the computer just stops recognising it, and any signal is replaced by what on the control panel level meters is a constant low level noise, though you can't hear it. The driver software also plays havoc with my mac - it keeps freezing, programs don't quit, it won't shut down etc - its a 1.33 gHz G4, running OS 10.4.7 - the drivers only go up to 10.4.6. I've uninstalled them now but I swear the mac is more sluggish than it was before. Anyone out there any ideas, or tried to run this combination? Thanks!

The driver is supported in 10.4.7

They have yet to complete regression testing, and it seems there are some problems. I hate to make such a drastic recommendation, but I would go back to 10.4.6. You'll need to back everything up and start fresh.

Sorry.

When is the driver for 10.4.7 coming out? My Projectmix is stuck in its box until then.... BTW it looks like 10.4.8 should be out quite soon...

Cheers David, I think I'll take the even more drastic action of selling the thing and trying again. This experience tells me all I need to know about M-Audio - they're useless.

Yeah, my Projectmix is for sale - the new MOTU Pre8 looks interesting...

Actually, does anyone know where I can download 10.4.6? Apple don't seem to have it.

you can search in Apple/Mac OS X/Downloads

this is what I find:

http://searchcgi.apple.com/cgi-bin/sp/nph-searchpre11.pl

good luck on installing this - you have to reinstall 10.4 first then install the combined 10.4.6 update.

Guys, I'm sorry you've had lousy experiences.:(

I don't want to get into a shouting match, but these products are far from useless. In the majority of scenarios out there, they are working very well. As is true for any piece of hardware, there is potential for glitches and problems. I've seen the most expensive hardware do some funny things.

When the OS changes, Apple will give us access to advanced "beta" versions, but they inevitably make changes to the final release that our development team gets the same day the masses do. Even class compliant drivers were "broken, " causing problems with our keyboards. This is not due to a change in the keyboard, but a change in the way Apple implemented class compliant support. I don't say this to shift blame from M-Audio to another manufacturer, I just want you to understand the circumstances.

M-Audio makes every effort to address problems and bugs as they arise. We have an entire team of driver writers dedicated to supporting legacy products.

The update is not far from complete and that setup will be smoking. I'm sorry the timing was as it was. I hope your new products will make working easy and fun for you.
