Newbie on constructing studio, please give advice~~

Hello, I am a guitarist from Hong Kong~

I am now thinking of renting a room for some general recording and computer mixing, but I don't know if my idea is "normal" or not.....

the room is about 300-350 sq. fts,
I'd like to divide it into 2, one for recording and one for control room.

I generally use computer for recording,
with MOTU 828mk2 Firewire audio interface.
Most of the sounds are by software sampling like Edirol Hyper Canvas,
with Sonar running on Windows XP.
My computer configuration is ok, P4 2.4G, with 2G memory.

For Microphone, I will have Shure PG48 and SM57,
and some Condensor mics made in China,
with M-Audio Buddy Mic-preamp.

Most of my recording are for vocal(solo or small group), acoustic guitar,
or Electric Guitar Amp.


Please give me some advices,
is that enough for general purpose like recording a demo or CD production?
or I need to buy more gears for some compulsive purposes (like compressor..)?
what kind of cable should be used (as I am now using general Phone Jack)?
how about the sound isolation?


as I am a newbie and don't have much money, please help~~~ :)

uhh..

I hate to be a spoil sport but..

it would be far cheaper and way less labor intensive for you to go to your local recording studio and buy some studio time.

your final product would be way more professional sounding and you wont have the headache of building a studio from scratch


The equipment you listed will work for general recording but to master a album professionally, an "El Cheapo" eBay funded studio with proper acoustic isolation, equipment and software can easily run you 10 thousand dollars.

my real advise is if you are looking to do some serious recording, don't spend your time on building a studio "unless that is your passion" just pay for some studio time, (it isn't that expensive) and let your creative side flow without the bother of getting into a project that is way over your head.
