I'm new to this forum and my pair of M-Audio BX5a's are not that much newer actually. I just bought these 2 months ago and the left monitor has just started to produce an intermittent crackle (ranges from weak to constant), the right speaker is fine.

Here are a few symptoms:
- the crackle doesn't get louder if i adjust the volume on my soundcard or indeed the volume at the back of the speaker. It is a constant level.
- The crackle is still there if i turn down all volumes

my audio card is the UA-25. Is it possible that this is actually my sound card? This was also purchased at the same time.

Can anyone suggest why this is happening, why only the left speaker, and how do i fix it.

thanks in advance

From what you've said I deduce these are active speakers; they have internal amplifiers. First, disconnect them from the soundcard: pull out the cable. If the noise is still coming from the speaker, its electronics are at fault. If the noise is gone, it is probably the soundcard. Verify further by plugging something else into the speaker inputs such as a CD player or tape deck.

to add to andy's recomendations, please also check the cables from your card/mixer to the speakers, switch them around and see if the problem stops or moves to the right speaker... if yes, then its just the cables...

Best wishes..
