Andy,

You need to be a bit more specific. Is it only for backup and storage of your soundbanks and other files? Are you planning to record directly to the external HD?

Are you using any other external device (e.g. USB/FireWire audio capture device) ?

i will be using using the hard drive via firewire and will sometimes record directly onto it. i want the one that is most reliable for audio editing onto it and i am olso looking for speed, if i want to load the soundbanks from it, but mainly the most realiable one i am interested in.

just tell me what you think is best to use in the studio, occasionaly recording stuff onto it and loading soundbanks from it. if you had any experiences with any of them or simply what you think. thanks...

LaCie is not an hard drive OEM. Which hard drive you're going to end up with, depends on their current purchasing agreement. Seagate is a safe bet.

I use 6 HDs in total (2 Seagate, 2 Maxtor, 2 Western Digital). They are all 7200rpm, and range between 6 months and 8 years in use. I had no problems with any of these.

Generally speaking, the reliability of HD has come a long way over the past 4-5 years. However, an OEM's reputation is NOT a replacement for regular backups.

Before you buy, check "Tom's Hardware" or AnandTech for the latest HD comparison/tests. The better is not always the more expensive.

Good luck,
George

If I had the right client who was willing to pay...
I'd check out Dragon Harddrives for archiving.

I'm using a Lacie and am loving it. The lacies come in many sizes and prices.
