Hi, I'm wondering if its possible to connect my Hi-Fi through my PC to play out from my 5.1Speakers. The problem is that the stereo does not have Aux/OUT only Aux/IN.

So I wonder, Surely its possible to have a 3.5mm cable run from the headphone out to the 3.5mm mic port in the PC? If this is possible what software, If any, would I need to route the input to output, Or would this be automatic?

Thank You,

If your stereo system has a tape loop, or tape monitor loop, it's output jack is the normal place to connect to a sound card input. A headphone output will work, it may be acceptable, but it will not be the same quality.

What you want to do is not the normal reason for inputting to a soundcard; you just want to use the computers speakers to play whatever is currently active on your stereo system, no? This would be a monitoring function, you do it by adjusting the soundcard mixer to route the input to the output jacks.

If you think you are going to get 5.1 sound from your stereo this way, you are mistaken. You will get sound only to the two main speakers of your 5.1 speaker system because there is no content for the other speakers in a stereo system.
