Just curious if anyone has made the switch from Win98SE to Win98 Lite? If so, what kind of system imporvements did you experience? Any increase in number of tracks, etc? I'm using Samplitude and would love to be able to squeeze some more tracks, fx out of it if possible.

I'm afraid that you're a bit late... lol Many of us have been successfully using Win 98lite for a VERY long time and are patiently awaiting 2000/XP lite. http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif
At any rate, the real benefits of 98lite doesn't lie in a higher track count or more plug-ins per project. The main reason many of us use it is to have a sleek, ROCK SOLID system that doesn't crash. It's important to remember when using any Windows 98 rig, that you'll be working with the venerable and latent MME drivers..... Once you go WDM you'll never look back!
But I would highly recommend Win98lite to anyone w/ an older rig that doesn't need low latency WDM drivers, and wants some serious system stability. Check out they're website for some more info.... www.litepc.com (http://www.litepc.com)
good luck w/ whatever choice you make.
cheers

Unfortunately, I am running a Gadget Labs 824 sound card. For those who don't know about GL, they were a great company who is no longer with us. As a result, there is no WDM driver support as of now. I am stuck on win98 until someone comes up with drivers or I get a new SC. Thanks for the advice. I may go ahead with Win98 Lite for now.

I agree about 98lite giving great stability to 98SE (I use it) but I don't understand when you say 98SE users are stuck with latent MME drivers. I use ASIO drivers with 98SE and have no latency problems at all.

I apologize for any confusion... I was speaking from a Sonar/ M-Audio Audiophile standpoint. I should been clearer. Trock is indeed correct.
cheers.

Actually I was slightly incorrect <g> - at 0 ms latency (using the LynxOne card) I do get occasional clicks but at 1 ms it's perfect. I find 5 ms fine, though

I haven't used it myslef (I'm quite happy with XP thanks) but I understood that Win98SE had WDM support.
