Ok I am trying to learn what I can about puting together my DAW and this forum really helps. I see in some of the DAW builder sites that when they configure a system for you they tend to use IDE or ATA drives for the OS as opposed to SATA. But on all the storage or audio drives they use SATA. I guess my question would be "why not SATA for both purposes?" I read it is faster data transfer? Thanks in advance as always...

The data transfer speed difference is actualy very small. The peak throughput is higher, but the sustained transfer rate of drives is way below the theoretical peak of the interface (even for old ATA66).

The appropriate OS drive kinda depends on the motherboard chipset IMO. I'd rather go with a native controller on the southbridge for the OS, primarily because I hate having to install a floppy drive and hit that F6 when installing windows. Not all SATA setups meet that requirement, though some do, but ALL PATA IDE controllers are native.
