this morning when i was getting ready for work i heard a loud clap come from my studio room, when i looked in to see if one of the cats did something they should not have done, i noticed a very thick colum of very white smoke comming out of the top of my main crt monitor.
i unplugged the beast then killed power to the room.
have you guys ever had this happen to you?
if so, do you might know what would cause this phenomena?
i do intend to take apart the monitor and investigate the cause of the fault.
at least now i have a good excuse to move to LCD's
:D

  Could it have been 'Divine Intervention'??? The mysterious working of a higher power??? The hand of 'God' stepping in, designed to help motivate you to the next level and bring you into LCD enlightenment???....Naw.....The CRT probably went!

very funny,
no just kidding. you are 100% correct.
and i just bought me a new 17 inch lcd monitor (refurbished) by gateway for 150.00 off of ebay.
lets just see how divine this intervention really is.

don't take apart the monitor - they can store enough juice to kill you for several weeks. Just trash it and move on to a nice LCD.

Sounds like a good deal sabianq, I think you'll be more than satisfied with the Dell unit.

As long as as it wont kill me permemantly, I can live with being dead for just a couple of weeks.

im just josh'n dc wave.
i know about the inherent dangers of a cathode ray tube, i worked in a tv repair shop lots of years ago as a repair man. it was pretty interesting, you would see many people bring in tv's they thought were broken when it turned out to be something dumb like a stuck button caused by a small child with a pb&j gooed finger.
____________
now i just need to replace all of my monitors with lcd's.
im worried about my other screen's now.

Yea sure, but a good excuse for a home movie theatre write off I suspect :)

The drawbacks to LCD projectors are screen resolution. Cubase/Nuendo are optimized for a minimum of 1156x864. It gets a bit awkward below that.
Fan noise! Many of the projectors I have worked with are unacceptably noisy for studio work.

LOL @ bops.... hmmm... that might not happen as i would be buying it in USA and and asking a friend to bring it with his luggage.... (the stuff here is way too expensive).... so no tax deductions on that one.... the gov. will not allow me to write it off.... :(
@ 130 db... fan noise...!!! now that would be a real concern.... thanks dude... now i know what i should check for, before i buy the stuff.... may be a fanless model...!!.. if they exist....!!!..
Cheers all...

the specs for the x3 are 36 db of fan noise.
but you can mount the projector in an opposing wall and just have a window for the light.
i dont think they make a fanless projector yet.
but if you wait for 5 years or so, there will be very large poly silicone LED displays that you can "wallpaper" your wall with.
i want my entire wall and ceiling surface to be a monitor.
can you imagine? your whole wall (all of your walls) one big monitor.
then you would not need any windows. you wall can be your windows.
just imagine the wall actually dissapearing between your control room and studio while showing tracks and samples overlayed ontop of your studio view.
now that will be cool.

That would be very cool, sabianq.
What will be nice is when you can get projectors that are capable of very high screen resolutions, so you can have a lot of windows open in a large workspace, rather than just haveing huge windows.
My current room would not be practical for a "behind the wall" instlation. Of course, unless you have enough space to do rear screen projection, there is always the issue of casting shadows on your workspace.
For now, I just use my projector for my racing simulators. Rear projection onto a 36" screen that is right in front of my face. w00t!
