I'm as green as they come, when it comes to home studio stuff, but, what I can tell you (being a fellow V-Drummer), is that between this forum and the other one @
www.vdrums.com
you should be able to get almost anything answered.

well theres a guy that can make up custom audio pc's so if i know what i'll be lookin for it'd be better to do it versa, instead of buying it before i know what sort of ram and sound card i'll need. im looking to have a studio where i can mix down a small band. whether that be recording each part separately or together i dont mind but the budget is moderately tight and im lookin for a place to start. yeah i've been on vdrums.com but the drums are gonna be more a part of the things i wanna do when recording. so ne info on what sort of ram.. soundcard/inputs and stuff along those lines:rolleyes: would be great.

IMHO look for a PC that sports the socket 939 that allows for the fitting of an AMD X2 processor. If your on a 'tight budget' just fit this board with the best AMD XP64 processor now, knowing that you can upgrade to the X2 in the future. However, if you do go with a single core CPU now, find a system that uses either the NForce3 or VIAK8T800Pro chipsets. If you go with the X2now than a MoBo using the NForce4 chipset is okay....but still gets outperformed by the NF3 and K8T800 at lower buffer rates.
As for ram, it's best to only populate 2 of the 4 slots in which case a dual channel kit(2x1gb) is best, giving you 2gb of ram. It's overkill to purchase high performance ram unless you plan on overclocking. A good mid range ram is fine...something between the value series and high performance.
As for soundcards...the EMU1212M and the Behringer ADA8000 is a tough combo to beat when you on a budget.
