Hi,
I want to buy a program for my home studio. I am still a begginer, i am thinking of either getting Cakewalk Homestudio or Sony ACID 5.0, I dont know which one to get though. I am a fast learner and i am gonna get the manual for any one that i choose. If any1 can help me out in choosing 1 of these two programs I would really appreciate it.
P.S: if you can suggest any other programs that would cost me less than 300 dollars it would be cool thanks
Thanks
Mo

Perhaps you will think this a stupid comment. Maybe what you want to do is very clear in your mind, but your post gives me very little idea of what it is. Different software is for different purposes, sometimes very different purposes, sometimes with significant overlap and a variety of functions. I know that the audio software I use does a very good job for me, but I'm unable to guess if it would even be a little useful for you.

What Andy really wants is some details about your situation. We can't give you accurate information if we don't know what you're going to be using the software for. So, maybe you could add some info about what exactly you're going to be doing with your studio (i.e. music composition, sampling). Then, perhaps, people will have some input. Acid and Cakewalk are different, but do have some overlap depending upon what you are going to use them for.
Cheers.

While I agree with the others that we don't have enough information on your needs, I can at least recommend some software that might save you a ton of money.
If you want multitrack audio recording software with full MIDI implementation, you might want to check out Power Tracks Pro 10 from PG Music. (www.pgmusic.com). It costs $49.
You may also want to check out N Tracks software.
If you want professional software for a very reasonable price, I would suggest Adobe Audition.
If you just want stereo recording software, try Sony Sound Forge Studio, it's under a hundred dollars.
It is just my own personal preference, but I do not like Cakewalk products.. I have never had good luck with getting them to work properly. However, I have friends that swear by Sonar and other Cakewalk stuff.. So maybe it's just me.
But as a beginner, you can get some amazing audio software without breaking the bank that will at least help you learn and let you decide in the future how much money you need to throw at your needs.
