i purchased the project mix a few days ago and i've been away from my studio so i haven't had a chance to connect it. but im wondering if i still need my audiophile 2496 card in order to record or run protools m powered? i asked the guy at sam ash, but he sounded like he didn't know what he was talking about. thanks

Upgrade to Pro Tool M-Powered 7.0 and the lastest Project mix drivers and your good to go.

review of project mix:

the right tool at the right price...

there is no standalone mixer function, and the drivers are funny to work with, you'll find yourself restarting in order to switch audio programs (as said by the customer service rep at M-Audio).

now, for the good stuff...

its one of the best investments i've made in my studio. very user friendly. i would have love to be able to do more commands with it, but i dont mind using the mouse. you can record and mix an entire session with the project mix, including selecting tracks, audio parts, and editing. you can even tweak plugins from its board. accurate mixing. great faders, very smooth and sturdy. you will still need an ilok to use pro-tools (which sucks) record up to 96k. 24bit. roboust sound. outboard gear friendly....i mean, for the price, its the best upgrade to a serious studio.

questions?
