What equipment do I need?

Hi. What Im trying to do is have a computer, with a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound card in it. I want to connect it to a reciever that has surround sond speakers on it, either 5.1 or 7.1. I want everything on the computer to be heard on the surround sound speakers. I am going to also be playing guitar through the computer, and I would like that to be surround sound too. I do not have any equipment yet, so please tell me what you think would be best to get. Thanks!

Rather a "general" question... All sorts of stuff out there... any budget on anything? Are you planning on recording and producing your own stuff in 5.1 or 7.1? That gets rather expensive quick. Are you playing 5.1 files and attempting to play your guitar along with them? Do have the computer yet? Do you have a receiver yet? I've got a 5.1 receiver for the "home theatre" (if that isn't an oxymoron in my situation...), but it will not accept anything but what the DVD player gives it. Probably something super-uber-proprietary and not to be messed with by the end-user. But I have no other experience with anything else 5.1, 7.1, surround-sound, or any of that other "new-tech" newfangled DRM-protected stuff...
