View Full Version : digital distortion
ok, i'm kinda new to this, so excuse me if this a stupid question...i have a recording of a concert and it has digital distortion....that is, someone set the recording level too high, so at points it distorts. does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of this distortion?

yup, sorry, your stuck with the cliped wave.
when a digital sample is clipped, the information is not recorded at all. any information above 0 dBFS is literally cut out of the record. and there is no way to bring the real information back. (i have heard of some software solutions that interpet lost information but i would venture to guess that they dont work well.
sorry about your loss (pun intended)
anyway if you get a chance to rerecord the concert, make shure you have alot of headroom.
no such thing as too much headroom.
sorry

Garbage in, garbage out.
That's what they do re-takes for...

i agree with that..... if you are going 24 bits you really dont have to push it as u would with 16 bits.... so u can go a little easy and not have to worry too much about the floor noise quantisation....
Cheers...
