I am very interested in the X-Fi (entry level one) from creative. From the reviews I have read, especially at tomshardware.com, it seems to be an amazing sound card that can not be passed up. The unfortunate thing is.. that I am getting a laptop within the next two months. I desperately want the card, and heard that it might be able to be housed in an external casing. Has anyone heard about a possible external USB or firewire enclosure for the X-Fi soundcard?

The answer is "probably" :) Follow this link, or google "external pci enclosure" for some info: http://www.pangolin.com/LD2000/dock/dell.htm
I don't know what brand laptop you are planning to get, but the above link was just to show that such a beast exists.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I will not be using it for much gaming. I plan to do a lot of ROM playing (snes, gba) using the headphone input. From the reviews I have read, this thing makes headphones sound amazing. I have some nice sennheisers... which are kind of liked a double edged sword. They reproduce everything perfectly, including EMI from my onboard sound. Anyways, I will be playing some ROMS, listening to digital music, and watching dvds.
