Yo. Im building a recording pc.
First off, im mainly gonna be recording death metal music. So guitar imput is key. I wanna experiment with creating sorta techno-eee type sounds... nothing too acid, just some weird sounds... anyway, thats enough on that front.
Im looking at 3 cards.
GUILLEMOT MAXI STUDIO ISIS
TARRATEC DMX 6Fire 24/96
YAMAHA SW1000XG
Just wanna know if there are any users out there who have these cards and what they think of them?
Cheers... btw, main software is cubase and cool edit pro, output is thru a Denon PMA255 and some Mission 700s

By the way - im changing my motherboard too! So, motherboard compat isn't an issue insofar as i can get anyhthing next time - tho pricing is an issue... im using a pentium 4 1.7 GHz cpu.

I "used" the first Guillemont product when they first produced recording soundcards and it was pure ****e, so after 3 months of pure frustration I just shelved it and bought a DMan, with which I recorded a non-half-bad first demo. More recently I bought an Aardvark 24/96 on the advice of the folks here, but haven't run it through the paces yet. I'd avoid Guillemot, as their drivers and support are legendary for sucking!

I have the same experience as MikieNes. Guillemot is not a professional product.

Cool - been reading loads and it looks as though the tarratec is the one to go for...
Now, how do I make sure there are no compatibility issues with this and my motherboard to be? Im a LIL bit of a newbie, been doing recording for a while, but not seriously with computers.
Cheers

Check out the m-audio series of soundcards. Really high quality converters, reasonable prices. Best of all they have really great support and constantly update their drivers. I have the delta 66 which gives great results.
Cheers

I did look briefly at M-Audio. I like what i've read about them on the harmony central forums but part of the reason I want the Tarratec is cuz I REALLY want a break-out box and unless a certain card did something majorly majorly brilliant, then i would stick with the tarratec...
What do you reckon?

I was just looking at the Delta 66... nice, but need an optical output... plus its a little outta what I budgeted for a soundcard - BUT, is it THAT much better than the tarratec to negate both of those factors?

Hi,
stay away from Guillemot ISIS. The product is not too bad, but they don't support it any longer. They have no driver for Windows2000 and XP, and they'll never have them!
What's with STA (former Hoontech) DSP 2000?
It has analog in, digital in and midi and is not too expensive!

I have the TerraTec EWS 88D and once I figured out the problem was my computer and not the sound card, it works perfectly and installed simply. Only one complaint..the install CD was pure useless crap and the two software programs that came with it (Emagic MicroLogic and Sek'd Samplitude) simply would not work.
Customer support is now through Fostex and they were very helpful once I found them. TerraTec never returned an email but Fostex called me the same day I posted.
