Ok so today I bought a $200 Bose Tripod Headset:

http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_PRODUCT_PAGE_EVENT&product=triport_headphones_index&pageName=/home_entertainment/headphones_headsets/index.jsp

Anyways, they work great for music. But, when I play online games, I hear people around me that arent around me. They are more like half the way across the map / level. My friend suggested to turn OFF the surround sound but he had no idea how to do this as he doesnt have the sound card I have. Should I turn off the surround sound or not? Is there another thing I have to do?

My sound card is built into my motherboard. It came with a program called SoundMAX:

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Go to the mixer of your sound card (an icon in the system tray) and turn of any 3D or spatial settings.

SoundMAX does not give me any options for any of these settings.

EDIT- I just found this in the Help section:

Why are there no controls for 3D game audio?

All of SoundMAX's 3D game audio capabilities are internal and are controlled directly by the game itself.

Is there any thirdparty mixers I can use besides the one that the sound card came with?

You should pick up a new sound card. The onboard ones usually suck. I just got a new mobo with 5.1 surround but it's disabled as I have an Audigy 2ZS ans a Delta 1010.

My friend told me to just go buy the Audigy ZS Gamers Edition. Any comments or shoudl I get another one? Since I just bought a new monitor, my price range would be $130 to lower.

Thanks.

EDIT- By the way, I use a BOSE TriPod headset. Not speakers.

Not sure of the gamers edition but I'm sure it'll be fine.
