Dear Sirs,
I'm going to buy a Notebook for audio Editing and mixing.

I will use with Wavelab 5.0 for two track editing & mastering and later with Nuendo for 8 track mixing.

I' ll use no more than 8 tracks at 24 bit, 44.1 Khz, trasferring via ethernet or fireware from My ADAT to notebook and then mixing with Nuendo.

I suppose to use no more than 3 VST plugins: a reverb an eq and a limiter togheter with wavelab. No plugins with Nuendo.

Now I ask you if one of theese notebook is good for that:
HP dv1250ea
(Mobile Intel Centrino M 725; 512 MB DDR PC2700 @ 266MHz ; 80 GB HD EIDE, ATA 100 4200 rpm; WXGA 14,0 screen High Definition BrightView; IntelR Extreme Graphics 2)

HP dv 4046ea
(Mobile Intel Centrino M 730; 512 MB DDR PC2700 @ 333 MHz ; 80 GB HD EIDE, ATA 100 4200 rpm ; WXGA da 15,4 screen High Definition BrightView Widescreen; Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900)

I need a silent PC , so I choose Centrino. My doubt is if 4200 rpm HD is capable to manage well 8 tracks at 24 bit, 44.1 Khz.

Centrino M is a good choice here, but that 4200rpm drive is gonna kill you.

the 4200 drive should play back 8 tracks at 24/44.1 no problem, you wont however get much more from a drive at that speed.

I've been using an old toshiba satellite as a scratchpad for songwriting ideas for 5 years and it doesn't let me down much. (PIII 750) running Nuendo 1.6

What's most important though is your audio interface, you dont say which one? I'd bite the bullet and get a firewire interface with ADAT in. there are loads, and if you're mastering you;ll need something with pretty good convertors.

You should look at RME Hammerfall PCMCIA + Multiface. Once you've done the transfers, you only need the card to monitor audio.

Thanks a lot for your reply:
Yes , as you imagine I'll use the PC without an audio interface as I'll do audio files tranfer by ADAT Fireport and the audio interface of the PC is only a listening monitor device, so I do not need hi quality multichannel audio interface. Of course mix is an internal render that no have to do with any audio device output.

I suppose you agree ..

I think ADAT + PC is the best way as you can avoid PC crashes and interferences of CPU with audio interface convertors.
I also plane to use external USB HD in order to reserve internal HD to the system. Many people says it's the best configuration for audio.

I use a Sager desktop replacement (i.e., a huge notebook) but its a Pentium 4 3.0 with HT, 800 FSB, etc. and these notebooks are the only ones I have seen with a 2nd hard drive bay and a dual-monitor output card which is great for audio

Gee!!!
How can you mix without proper monitoring?
