Hi,

My band has recently aquired a dell laptop to run drum tracks in Cubase SX for our jam sessions. However there seems to be a lot of noise. It seems to be much worse with the power supply plugged in. The thing is, when we close Cubase the noise stops. any ideas what might be causing it? We have all inputs muted so there is no signal coming in. Any ideas?

Cheers
Geoff

I had the same problem connecting the dell latitude to my DTX kit. this is due to the laptop using common ground from the earth pin on your PSU plug.

Inorder to fix the noise, you need to disconnect the earth/ground terminal on your plug and earth your laptop using someother method. I use my laptop without the earthing. Seems to work fine. however this is a old laptop.

I'd recommend getting an external sound card, such as the M-Audio Mobile Pre for your laptop. Integrated sound cards in laptops tend to be pretty horrible.

yes...get an external sound card...it doesn't compare with the one inside your laptop! it's much better...
another thing...try to plug out the cord from the power socket and switch its legs and plug it back in...i had the same noise problem with my cs6x and by doing this the noise was gone...grounding problem...
