I'm looking into buying another pc for my studio. The software I will be running is Nuendo, Reason, Recycle, etc... The specs of the system are:

1 Pc Chips Mb825g Socket A Via Km266pro $49.99
2 Amd Athlon Xp 2700+ 2.17ghz 333fsb Oem $93.99
3 512mb Pc2100 266mhz Ddr Major Brand $62.00
4 20gb Ide Hard Drive Major Brand $34.95
5 160gb Ide Hard Drive 7200rpm Major Brand $72.00
6 Hitachi-Lg 48x24x48x Cdrw Internal Ide $28.95
7 Atx 400 Watt P.S. Pl Style Midtower Case $29.95
8 8cm Sleeve Bearing Case Cooling Fan $4.00

$394.28

Does this seem like a good deal and will it be able to handle Nuendo and other software programs? I don't use many plugs. I'm not trying to go over $400 in all for a new DAW.

Cheap can often be: Will have trouble reading massive amounts of data.

Check with other users, see if anyone else is using that particular mobo for audio/video editing and pass on it if you do not get positive remarks. Dont frustrate yourself when you can spend a few more dollars and get something that WORKS.

I would also pass on the CD-RW. Get a DVD/CD burner. My 52xCD/16xDVD Lite-On burners from newegg.com were only $60 and have never given me a problem. You will want massive amounts of backup capability and much software now is ONLY coming on DVD.

Otherwise you've got the right idea.

More RAM no matter what mobo you get...and you might as well get an 80gb drive instead of that 20.

For the same money, why not go with the Athlon64 2800+ Socket 754 Processor with a much newer 8 series VIA chipset MoBo?

1) Gigabyte GA-K8V800M.........................................$ 60
2) AMD Athlon64 2800.............................................. 100
3) 512mb Crucial PC3200......................................... 50
4) Rosewill case w/400w PSU................................... 25
5) NEC DVD-RW................................................ ......... 50
6) Seagate Barracuda 80gb system drive................. 60
7) Seagate Barracuda 160gb audio drive.................. 80

Total is: $425 You may also be able to trim that price even further by keeping a watch on rebate offers for those hard drives. If you live near a Best-Buy, it seems that just about every other month they have amazing deals on hard drives.

jb4play, all look's good except for that graphics card. I'd suggest going with a card that's alittle more up to date. The GeForce2 card only supports DirectX 7 or lower. Take a look at this card I used on the last build:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130173
