Howdy, just joined to ask this question because I can't find an answer anywhere else and I thought this would be the best place to get a response. I have some unused stereo speakers lying around and I thought I should hook them up to my laptop.

Is it possible to attached exposed wire speakers to a standard, stereo headphone jack?

Unless your speakers are amplified, no.
Headphones amplifier don't have enough power to drive speakers.
Get an amp if your speakers are passive.

one really gerat, easy and cheap way to listen to different speakers is to get a hold of an old am-fm stereo recevier that has different inputs on it. hook up your computers sound cards line out using
this cord (Mini-3 TRS 3.5mm Stereo To 2-RCA)

to the line in (rca connectors) of the stereo recevier. Then hook up your different speakers to the red and black spring loaded speaker outs on the back of the stereo.

ust the volume control on the receiver to change the level of yout "test" speaker.

have fun.
